In 2017, the city was awarded a Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) grant up to $25,000 to help fund a Complete Tree Inventory and Management Plan. The focus of the inventory was to address short-term and long-term maintenance needs for inventoried public trees. The Davey Resource Group completed the tree inventory of 3,060 sites to help the city gain an understanding of the needs of our existing urban forest and recommend a maintenance schedule for tree care.

In 2024 the City is working to update the inventory and management plan. Previous and current updates can be found here

This inventory was made possible by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The Municipal Services Division of Public Works is responsible for the planting and maintenance of approximately 3,000 city-owned trees located in the public right-of-way (ROW). To help manage and promote a health urban tree canopy, the city removes, replaces, and prunes city-owned trees on an annual basis. When properly maintained, trees provide communities abundant environmental benefits and contribute to a community's quality of life. The trees growing along the public streets constitute a valuable community resource by providing pollution control, energy reduction, stormwater management, wildlife habitat, education, and aesthetics.
